Simpson County holds on to major win

Despite out hitting their opponent 17-9, host Brookhaven Academyfell to Simpson County 11-10 in a battle of Cougar baseball teamsThursday night.

BA (9-5, 1-0) travel to Amite School Center today for adoubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m. with the junior varsity. SCAimproved to 7-4 on the season.

“We did not deserve to win the game,” said first-year BA head coachCasey Edwards. “Our pitchers did not give us a chancetonight.”

SCA took a 4-3 lead over BA in the first inning and maintained the1-run advantage through six of the seven innings of the contest. BAdid tie the game at 5-all in the bottom of the fifth but SCA cameback to retake and held on for the lead and win.

“Both teams competed hard,” said SCA coach Britt Hederman. “BA hasa good squad. The game went down to the final play. We are glad toget the win against a good ball club.”

Andy Maddox (3-1) was the winning pitcher with 5 strikeouts, 2walks and 2 hit batters. Austin Herrington got the save with 1 walkand 1 hit batter. Christian Keene absorbed the loss, fanning 2 andwalking 2. Reliever Hunter McCullough struck out 7, walked 3 andhit 2.

Powering BA with a home run, a double and a single was BrentHenderson. Also homering and doubling was Keene. Will Gatlindoubled and singled twice. Doubling and singling was Tyler Parvin.Hunter Franklin and McCullough finished with a pair of singlesapiece. Doubling was Donovan Lorraine.

Marc McMillian, Brandon Johnson and Garrett Taylor smashed a doubleand a single apiece for SCA.
