Gulf Coast women take twinbill from Co-Lin

PERKINSTON – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves dropped a South Divisionsoftball doubleheader Saturday to the Gulf Coast LadyBulldogs.

Gulf Coast won the opener 8-0 in five innings then nipped Co-Lin6-5 in 10 innings. The Wolves are 15-10 on the season.

Jones County visits Co-Lin today for a twinbill beginning at 4p.m.

Gulf Coast 8, Co-Lin 0

In the first game, the Wolves were held to just 2 hits. Dee DeeWalker and Debra Hamor had the only hits for Co-Lin.

“We just dug ourselves in a hole early and ran into a good pitcheron top of her game,” said Co-Lin head coach Allen Kent. “It wasn’ta good combination for us.”

Bethany Pinkston absorbed the loss, going 3 innings and allowing 5earned runs on 5 hits, 5 strikeouts and 4 walks. Hamor finished thefinal 1.3 innings.

Gulf Coast 6, Co-Lin 5

Co-Lin scratched for a run in the first inning and 3 more in thefourth to take a 4-1 lead over Gulf Coast. The Bulldogs cut themargin to 4-2 in the fifth then scored 2 more runs to tie the game4-all in the sixth.

Neither team scored until the 9th inning where both teams scored 1run each and remained tied 5-all. In the 10th, the Bulldogs scoredthe game-winning run after the Wolves failed to score.

“This was a difficult loss, given the fact that we had a chance totake one on the road from a very good team,” said Kent. “We must beable to play better under pressure and win these types ofgames.”

Pinkston (15-5) absorbed the loss, going 9.2 innings. She allowed 3earned runs on 8 hits, struck out 7 and walked 1.

“Our defense let us down again,” said Kent. “Bethany didn’t deserveto lose that one. She really battled and had a great game, afternot having a very good game 1.”

Sones powered the Wolves with 3 singles, a RBI and a stole base.Walker had 3 singles, an RBI and a run scored. Kayla Colemansingled and had an RBI groundout. Daniele Wilson singled.

Linsey Dickerson was the winning pitcher in both games.
