Davis signs with Co-Lin Lady Wolves

WESSON — Senior Ann Shelby Davis of Wesson had a tough decisionto make: playing college basketball for either the Co-Lin LadyWolves or the Delta State Lady Statesmen.

Monday afternoon in boys basketball coach Ron Kessler’s classroom,Davis made it official before a crowd of family, administration andclassmates. She will be a Lady Wolf for the next two years.

When asked why she chose Co-Lin over Delta State, Davis smiled,”Co-Lin has a good group. It will be nice to start out here andthen move to a larger college.”

The 5-foot-10 guard finished her final year with the Wesson LadyCobras (25-7) averaging 17 points, 3 assists and 4 steals per game.She was named The DAILY LEADER’s MVP and Miss Basketball on theAll-Area Girls Basketball Teams for the last two years. She wasnamed to the All-Area team her sophomore year.

Former Wesson girls head coach Hugh Webb said, “Ann Shelby will beright at home. She struggled with going to either Delta State orCo-Lin. I think she made the right decision. She’s going to beplaying for one of the best college coaches (Gwyn Young)around.”

Davis said she plans to major in chemistry.

Young, whose 2010 Co-Lin team finished seventh nationally with a31-2 record, said Davis will fit right in with his program.

” Davis is a good shooter from two-point range,” said Young. “Weare happy to have her come in and play that spot. She can handlethe ball. We are looking for good things from her.”

Davis said she appreciated all the support from family, fans andthe administration at Wesson.

“I’m glad my parents will get to see me play again,” added Davis.Her parents are Glenn and Minta Davis. Her father is the headfootball coach at Co-Lin.
