Wednesday workout selects District 7 team

WESSON – The State Games of Mississippi’s annual baseballtryouts took place statewide Wednesday, with eight districtsholding workouts at different sites. Copiah-Lincoln CommunityCollege’s Sullivan Field played host to the District 7 tryoutswhere 20 players were selected out of nearly 70 who triedout.
The District Seven team, composed of rising juniors and seniors,will report to Meridian Community College on June 23 for workoutsand practice in front of pro scouts and college coaches. Thedouble-elimination tournament begins June 24.
Several players from Southwest Mississippi braved 90-degree tempsduring the 4-hour long workout, which measured players in 60-yarddash time, pitch speed and location, plus fielding and hittingdrills.
Hazlehurst 3-sport standout Gabriel Gray turned in the best 60-yarddash time, sporting a 6.48 in the 60. Brookhaven product ScottiePeavey registered the fastest pitch with a 91mph fastball.
Players selected to the District Seven were the following:Christian “Bubba” Keene (Brookhaven Academy), Scott Votaw (LawrenceCounty), Scottie Peavey (Brookhaven), Gabe Wilson (Brookhaven),Matt Smith (Wesson), Nathan Taylor (Parklane), Dillon Lee (LawrenceCounty), Travis Keene (Loyd Star), Kendrick Hodges (North Pike),Revis Butler (North Pike), Courtney Forbes (Columbia), MarquisHayes (Loyd Star), Tyler Case (Loyd Star), Aaron Elzey (Columbia),Forrest Dunigan (Columbia), Ryan Ellis (Columbia), Jake Brumfield(ACCS), Brandon Austin (Parklane), Korey Allen (Loyd Star), andKody Anderson (West Marion).
Coaching the team will be the brother duo of George Lott III (NorthPike) and Dustin Lott (Brookhaven).
