Robert E. Ryals Sr.

Robert E. Ryals Sr. passed away in Brookhaven on June 21, 2010,at the age of 93. He was born on Nov. 26, 1916, in Pearl River,La., son of John Lafayette Ryals and Gertrude StockstillRyals.

His wife of 43 years, Edith Eschete Ryals preceded him in death in1984.

He is survived by two sons, Robert E. “Bob” Ryals Jr., and hiswife, Denise, and Marshall J. “Buddy” Ryals and his wife,Barbara.

He is also preceded in death by his wife of 25 years, MaxineCriscoe Ryals in 2010. Mrs. Ryals’ daughter, Glenice CriscoeRevielle, survives as his beloved stepdaughter.

He is survived by six grandchildren; Lisa (Anthony), Michael, Peg(Barry), Jeff (Karen), Trey (Lindsey) and Annie. His belovedgreat-grandchildren are Bradley, Eric, Courtney, Cameron, Conner,Rachel and Caroline.

Mr. Ryals retired from the City of New Orleans Health Departmentafter 30 years of service. Robert and Maxine gave their time toserving their community and their church. In 2008 they wererecognized as “Unsung Heroes” by the community and as OutstandingSenior Adults by First United Methodist Church in Brookhaven fortheir community service and caring for others.

Mrs. Sara Lumpkin of Abita Springs, La., is the last survivingsibling. The deceased siblings were Louise Whelan, Charles, Jackand Shelby Ryals.

Visitation was held on Thursday, June 24, from 10 a.m. until thetime of the service at 11:30 a.m., at First United MethodistChurch, on Cherokee Street in Brookhaven, with burial service atLake Lawn Park, New Orleans, La. Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home isin charge of arrangements.
