Trooper loses control in hydroplane mishap

Officials said a Mississippi Highway Patrol trooper is shakenup, but doing fine after a one-vehicle accident on Highway 550Wednesday afternoon.
MHP Troop M’s Lindsey D. Kidd, 25, was eastbound on Highway 550almost two miles west of Caseyville Road when his 2008 CrownVictoria patrol car hydroplaned, Public Affairs Officer Sgt. RustyBoyd said Thursday.
“He said he hit a puddle of water and went off the right side ofthe road where he hit a mailbox, and then came across to the otherside and hit a tree,” Boyd said.
Kidd, who transferred to Troop M from the Starkville district sometime ago, was coming back into Lincoln County after delivering sometickets in Jefferson County when the wreck occurred at 2:12 p.m.,Boyd said.
Kidd was taken from the scene to King’s Daughters Medical Center byanother trooper, where he was treated for his injuries andreleased.
Boyd said Kidd will be given a few days off to recuperate from theaccident.
“The accident reconstructionist works all the department wrecks,and (Kidd) will be allowed to take some days off to recuperateregardless of his injury or lack of injury,” Boyd said.
Once Kidd has returned, he will eventually be put back on the road,Boyd said.
“If another vehicle is available, he’ll be given another vehicle,though I don’t know if there are any at this point or what,” Boydsaid. “He may get a second-hand one or something to tide him overuntil another vehicle is available.”
