Lincoln Co. Nationals in S. Regional

Lincoln County’s National League all-stars hunt more success andglory in the Dixie Youth Baseball AAA 9s South Regional Tournamentthat begins Friday at Laurel. The Nationals play the HattiesburgNationals tomorrow at 6 p.m. on Community Bank Field.
Other opening round games in the double-elimination tournament sendPurvis against Magee at 6, followed by the Laurel Nationals versusthe Laurel Americans and Pascagoula vs. the McComb Nationals at 8.Action continues Saturday, with Friday’s winners playing at 8 p.m.and Friday’s losers meeting at 6 in elimination games. St. Martindrew a bye and faces the winner of the Laurel game.
The tournament is scheduled to run through next Wednesday. Thefirst and second place teams advance to the state tournament atHattiesburg that begins July 23.
“Our kids have been working hard in practice,” said Lincoln Countycoach Billy O. Britt. “Hopefully, we will be ready to play againstsome very good teams.”
Britt’s bunch swept the North Subdistrict Six Tournament at Natchezand beat McComb two straight games for the District Six title. Hisassistant coaches are Greg Smith and Todd Adcock.
Members of the Lincoln County Nationals 9-year-old team are SlayAcy, Sam Adcock, James Beard, Collin Britt, Dylan Case, JohnHilbert, Rials Hester, Kreshawn Jackson, Peytin Jergins, DaneSmith, Keegan Smith, and Hayden Waldon.
Lincoln 10s In Action
The Lincoln County National 10s also begin play tomorrow at theLaurel/Jones County Complex. The Nationals play Pascagoula at 8p.m.
“Pascagoula is one of the teams we beat last year,” said National10s coach Stan Winborne. “They are a good team and we were lucky toslip by. They were a travel team of select players.”
Last year, Winborne’s 9-year-old team finished third in Southregional. Walthall County beat Columbia in the South finals. In thestate tourney, Columbia beat Walthall in the finals.
“We are hitting the ball better than last year,” said Winborne. “Weare still trying to find our pitching prowess.”
Winborne said only four players returned from last year’s LincolnCounty squad that was swept by Walthall in the District Sixplayoffs. Eleven of 12 Walthall players from the 9-year-old teamare on the 10s squad.
Assisting Winborne are Lee Zumbro and Brad Waldrop. Members of theLincoln County 10s team are Dylan Winborne, Dawson Zumbro, BenSpringfield, Keith Robinson, Tucker Watts, Tanner Waldrop, DillonGriffin, Peyton Smith, Dalton Fortado, Trace Brady, Josh Nationsand Cade Cangemi.
