Co-Lin Wolves report today for preseason practice

WESSON – Co-Lin head coach Glenn Davis and his staff willwelcome their 2010 squad to preseason practice Sunday. TheWolfpack, numbering 75 strong, will practice Monday at 3:30 p.m. aspreparations begin for the campaign.

Following physical exams Sunday, Davis said the Wolves willpractice once daily the first three days. They’ll practice twice onThursday, starting at 8:30 a.m. and 3:40 p.m.

“We are looking forward to getting started,” said Davis. “In fourweeks, it’s (season) here.”

Co-Lin kicks off its season Sept. 2, hosting the Coahoma Tigers fora 7 p.m. game in Stone Stadium. MACJC teams mut trim their rostersto 55 players.

“We had as many as 98 players this summer,” said Davis. “Most ofthe players attended summer school and worked out in the afternoon,lifting weights and running.

Davis said he expects 24 sophomores to report. Among them are 12starters from last year’s 6-3 team that finished third and 4-2 inthe South Division.

Leading the Pack is quarterback Percy Turner who passed for 1,515yards and 12 touchdowns as a freshman. Other returning starters arerunning back Titus Mobley, offensive tackles Oscar Johnson andLarry Banks, center Keith Dee, wide receivers Fred Fuller andMichael Berry on offense.

Directing Co-Lin’s defense are linebacker Jordan Hunt, end TerranceColeman, and tackles Bo Tillman and Roland Dampier.

Davis said his staff returns intact. Co-Lin’s assistant coaches areBrett Shufelt, defensive coordinator; Calvin Green, defensivesecondary; Clarence McDougle, safeties and linebackers; DrewO’Daniel, offensive line; and Bill Hemingway, running backs. Daviscoaches quarterbacks and receivers.

Davis said the players had made strong improvements during thesummer workouts that are directed by O’Daniel. “Our kids reallylook different. A couple of (high school) coaches came by and saidhow good their kids looked. They could tell the difference.”

Co-Lin will host Holmes Sept. 9, before traveling to Hinds atRaymond, Sept. 16, for its first South Division test.
