Hazlehurst mauls Morton

MORTON – Sophomore quarterback Kenny Coleman passed for 238yards and three touchdowns as the Hazlehurst Indians whippedMorton’s Panthers 34-6 Friday night in their 2010 season opener.Coleman completed 11 of 17 passes.
“This is the first time in a long time that Hazlehurst has beenable to throw the ball,” said Hazlehurst head coach Todd McDaniel.”We are a young team with around 11 freshmen and sophomoresstarting.
“Our kids did a great job at Morton,” he added. “Most importantly,they were physical.”
Hazlehurst led 13-0 at halftime. Leviticus Cain ran one yard for aHazlehurst TD. Cornelius Crump went 7 yards for a score and caughta 35-yard TD pass from Coleman.
Gabrial Gray hooked up with Coleman on a 99-yard pass reception.Gray also caught a 25-yard TD pass from Coleman.
On defense, Cain had 15 tackles and three forced fumbles in leadingthe Indians.. Demetrius Cain had 13 tackles, two forced fumbles andone interception.
The Indians host South Pike Friday night. McDaniel and South Pikecoach Willie Brown coached together on Hazlehurst’s 2005 statechampionship team.
