BHS girls ax McComb, capture district crown

MCCOMB – Emily Freeman hit a 3-run homer and the Brookhaven LadyPanthers whipped McComb 8-4 Tuesday in District 7-5A slowpitchsoftball action. The victory clinched the district championship forBHS.
BHS, coached by Lisa Covington, hosts West Lincoln Thursday for asoftball twinbill, starting at 5 p.m. with the junior varsitygame.
The Panthers broke a 2-2 deadlock with a Freeman’s 3-run shot. Theyadded three more runs in the sixth.
Brooke Hosick (9-4) was the winning pitcher. Leyton Terrell (0 K,1BB) absorbed the loss.
Christen Benson singled twice and doubled for BHS. Sarah Ayersdoubled and Hosick singled twice. Erica Lenoir and Shelby Peaveysingled.
McComb got three singles from Kelsey Daniels. Danielle Farnumhomered and singled. Breann Talbert singled twice. Leyton Terrelland Lauren Mabile singled.
JV Results
In the preliminary junior varsity game, McComb beat BHS 8-1.Chantel Quarles was the losing pitcher.
Katherine Shell doubled and singled for BHS. Madison Case, TaylorMurray and Mandy Jackson singled.
