Indians crush Crystal Springs

HAZLEHURST – Sophomore Demetrius Cain rushed the ball 14 timesfor 121 yards and scored one touchdown as the Hazlehurst Indiansscalped their Copiah County rivals, the Crystal Springs Tigers,42-6 Friday night in high school football action.

“Glad to get the win,” said Hazlehurst head coach Todd McDaniel.”Our main objective was not to turn over the ball and play to ourpotential.”

The undefeated Indians (5-0) used their offense to outmuscle theTigers’ defense in the game, scoring six touchdowns. Hazlehurstsenior Gabrial Gray was the first to score on a 44-yard receptionfrom Kenneth Coleman. Gray also rushed for an 27-yardtouchdown.

Leviticus Cain cashed in two touchdowns for Hazlehurst, scoring ona 13-yard run and a 16-yard run. Cornelius Crump also scored atouchdown when he caught a 27-yard pass from Kenneth Coleman.

Coach McDaniel stated that he played a lot of his younger playersthroughout the second half.

Coleman led the Indians’ aerial attack, completing 7 passes on 15attempts for 110 yards.

Defensively, Gregory McGay and Desmond Tucker directed the teamwith four tackles apiece. McGay recovered a fumble. Demetrius Cainintercepted a pass.
