North Pike tramples Loyd Star

SUMMIT — The North Pike Jaguars triumphed over Loyd Star’sHornets as they romped 55-14 in their 2010 Homecoming game. TheClass 4A Jaguars raised their record to 4-1 on the season as seniorquarterback Revis Butler directed the rout.

Butler passed for a total of 112 yards with 2 touchdowns. Hecompleted 4 out of 5 passes in the first half. Tonnie Collins had 2receptions for 84 yards with 2 touchdowns. Demetric Jackson had onecatch for 11 yards and Jemerick Jordan had a 17 yardreception.

North Pike head coach Chris Smith said he was happy to see his teamfocused on winning their homecoming game. “The boys came out readyto play. We had a big win last week and I hoped we would not comeout flat and we did not. I had a great feeling at the beginning ofthe game.”

Butler was replaced in the second half by back-up quarterbackJerome Brown who was 0 for 2 on the night. Jaguar senior runningback Jalen Adams rushed for a total of 133 yards and twotouchdowns. Jake Martin also broke the century mark for the Jaguarswith 100 yards rushing with a 71-yard touchdown run. KethrickThompson carried the ball 3 times for a total of 44 yards with 2touchdowns. Laronte Lee had a 20-yard rushing touchdown. Tra’VezTaylor had 2 rushes for 2-point conversions and found the end zoneon both.

North Pike’s defense was led by A.J. Johnson with 6 tackles andDemitric Jackson who had 5 tackles and a fumble recovery. TariqJohnson had 3 tackles, a sack, and 2 fumble recoveries. KethrickThompson had an interception.

Loyd Star fumbled on its opening drive and North Pike’s DemitricJackson recovered the loose ball. Within 20 seconds of the fumble,North Pike answered with a 10-yard touchdown pass to TonnieCollins. Jefferson missed the extra point.

With 7:25 on the clock, the Hornets tried to kick a field goal butthe kick was blocked by a host of Jaguars.

The Jaguars turned the ball over and the Hornet offense struckquickly with a 31-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Korey Allento Cori Crowe.

On the next offensive play, Butler found Tonnie Collins for a74-yard touchdown pass. Tra’Vez Taylor completed the 2-pointconversion with a rush up the middle bringing the score to14-7.f

With 4:14 left in the first quarter, Allen’s pass was picked off byKethrick Thompson. One play later Jalen Adams broke loose for an86-yard touchdown run. Loyd Star was down 20-6.

Thirty-four seconds into the second quarter Kethrick Thompsonscored on a 21-yard rush. Taylor rushed for the 2-point conversionand it was 28-6. The Hornets were held scoreless the secondquarter. Halfway through the second quarter, Adams found the endzone again with a 19-yard rush. Jefferson completed the PAT,bringing the score to 35-7.

Close to the 3-minute mark, Kethrick Thompson carried the ball fora 7-yard score. Halftime arrived with the Jaguars leading42-7.

Less than one minute into the third quarter Jake Martin had a71-yard run for the Jaguars, making it 48-7. North Pike opened thefourth quarter with a 20-yard rushing touchdown by Laronte Lee.Tommy Beasley completed the extra point and brought the score to55-7.

Loyd Star reserve quarterback Seth Farmer took charge in the fourthquarter and drove 70 yards down the field as running back BradleyArcher carried the ball 2 yards into the end zone for the Hornets,bringing the score to 55-14. Cori Crowe kicked both PATs. BradleyArcher had 28 rushing yards in the scoring drive.

Loyd Star coach Randall Huffman said his team dug a hole early inthe game and couldn’t come back. “We had an opportunity early inthe game and we could not capitalize. I felt we were ready cominginto this game.

“The guys never quit and I was proud of them. Our attitudes aregetting better and we are showing improvement. You have to playwith what you have.”

The Hornet offense leaders were Josh Butler and Marquis Sims.Butler had 10 carries for 65 yards. Sims had 10 carries for 21yards.

Allen was 2 for 4 throwing the ball. He found Cori Crowe for a 31yard touchdown pass and Travis Sorrels for 26 yards. Allen totaledfor 57 yards passing with 1 interception.

The Hornet defense was led by Josh Butler had 7 tackles and CoreyFunk had 6 tackles. Scott Barras, Marquis Sims, and Cody Teekel had3 tackles apiece.

Loyd Star is 1-4 and has Friday off. The Hornets begin districtplay with Madison-St. Joe on Oct. 1.
