Panthers dominate Pearl River Central

CARRIERE – Quarterback Duwone Harris passed for three touchdownsand Brookhaven’s defense played shutout football as the Pantherswhipped Pearl River Central 34-0 Friday night in a Region 3-5Acontest. Harris completed 7 of 12 passes for 177 yards and rushed 8times for 55 yards.
The Panthers won their first region game and improved their recordto 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the region. They’ll host regionpowerhouse Picayune Friday night on King Field. Kickoff is 7p.m.
“We played well on offense after a quarter and a half,” said OleBrook head coach Tucker Peavey. “It took us a while to getgoing.
“We played great defense all night,” Peavey continued. “JawaunMerchant played great and our linebackers were veryaggressive.”
For the game, PRC only managed 132 yards total offense, all of iton the ground. By comparison, the Panthers amassed 433 yards totaloffense, gaining 245 on the ground.
“Our offensive line really took over the second half and we wereable to run the ball,” Peavey added. Senior running back TravoriusShowers rushed 13 times for 91 yards and one TD.
After a scoreless first quarter, the Panthers scored twice beforehalftime. Harris hooked up with Sherrod Gray on a 10-yard scoringpass for the first TD. Trent Powell caught a 15-yard TD pass fromHarris. Dewey Stailey tacked on two extra points and it was 14-0 athalftime.
BHS changed the scoreboard three times in the fourth quarter.Powell took an 18-yard TD toss form Harris. Showers raced 30 yardsto paydirt and Justin Blue went 21 yards for the final score.
The Blue Devils fell to 1-6 overall and 0-3 in the region race.
