Duckworth lifts Pirates over BC

MOUNT OLIVE – Quarterback Rueben Duckworth rushed 20 times for162-yards and two touchdowns. He also completed 2 out of 6 passesfor 10 yards as the Mount Olive Pirates prevailed 14-0 Friday nightover Bogue Chitto’s Bobcats in a Region 4-1A showdown.
The Pirates (4-4, 3-1), defending Class 1A state champions,remained in contention for the region title. The Bobcats (5-3, 3-1)absorbed their first region loss.
Bogue Chitto coach Gareth Sartin said his Bobcats had severalopportunities to put points on the scoreboard. “We had our chancesbut we didn’t get it in the end zone. We drove it down inside their10-yard line twice but we didn’t score. We also got inside the20-yard line but we didn’t execute.”
Sartin said his team played better on defense in the second half.”We didn’t do a good job of tackling in the first half. We shutthem down the second half.”
Duckworth scored both of Mt. Olive’s touchdowns in the secondquarter on runs of 18 and 3 yards. The Pirates completed one of two2-point conversion when Preston Lockhart caught a pass fromDuckworth.
Defensively, Kevin Brothern led the Bobcats with 12 tackles. TevinTobias and Jermaine Blackwell provided 8 stops apiece.
Colton McClendon led the offense of Bogue Chitto with 9 rushes for55-yards. Quarterback Brock Roberts completed 2 of 15 passes for 33yards. Brandon Wells was the top receiver with 1 catch for22-yards.
Bogue Chitto travel to Natchez Friday for Region 4-1A matchupagainst the Natchez Cathedral Greenwave. The game is set to beginat 7 p.m.
