Funeral services for William Samuel “Sammie” Buie Sr., ofMcComb, are 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 11, at North McComb BaptistChurch, with burial in Shady Grove Cemetery. Dr. Victor Walsh andthe Rev. Donald Dick will officiate. Hartman-Sharkey Funeral Homein McComb is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Wednesday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home,and on Thursday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of theservice.
Mr. Buie, 75, died Nov. 8, 2010. He was born April 4, 1935 inLincoln County. He was the son of Prentiss and Christine McDavidBuie. He was retired plant foreman for Freeport-MacMoRan’s GardenIsland Bay plant in Venice, La. He was a very active member ofNorth McComb Baptist Church, where he was a deacon and was involvedin many activities. He was a member of several mission groupsincluding the Nail Benders, CBSI and the mission group fromZachary, La. His involvement with these groups sent him to 43different states to do God’s work.
He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Mike H. Buie;and one sister, Frances B. Powell.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Evelyn Brister Buie ofMcComb; his four children and their spouses, Rene Boyd, Sandy andBecky Buie, and Libby and Mike Aultman, all of McComb, and StevenPaige and Sheila Buie of Roby, Mo.; one sister and her husband,Sylvia and Malcolm Walker of Ruth; a brother-in-law, Thad PowellJr. of Baton Rouge; a sister-in-law, Joann Buie of Ruth; an aunt,Winnie McGraw of Gulfport; nine grandchildren, Chris Boyd and wifeJill, Jake Boyd, Wilson Farrell, Summer Aultman, Shannon Buie,Timothy Buie, Kayla Buie, Hunter Aultman and Steve Buie; and onegreat-grandchild, Keyton Odom.
Pallbearers are Christopher Boyd, Jacob Boyd, Hunter Aultman,Timothy Buie, Steve Buie and Wilson Farrell. Honorary pallbearersare Cliff Alborado, Bobby Bihm, George Bilbo, Archie Craig, HueyRoberts, Jerry Eubanks, Frank Shepherd, the deacons of North McCombBaptist Church and Mr. Buie’s Sunday School Class.
