Bogue Chitto visits Nanih Waiya

The Bogue Chitto Bobcats enter the first round of the Class 1Astate playoffs Friday as the fourth seed of Region 4-1A. They areon the road at Nanih Waiya, the winner of Region 3-1A. Kickoff is 7p.m.

In other Lincoln County action, Brookhaven will visit Long Beach tostart their Class 5A playoffs.

In last week’s games, The Loyd Star Hornets (4-7) were eliminatedfrom the 2A playoffs by Union. The West Lincoln Bears (0-11)concluded their regular-season campaign with a 39-0 loss to Mt.Olive.

 Bogue Chitto (6-5) will be representing Region 4-1A along withNatchez Cathedral, Mt. Olive and Dexter.

The Bobcats, coached by Gareth Sartin, lost 35-21 to Dexter lastweek. Nanih Waiya (9-2), coached by Tate Hanna, stomped South Leake42-14.

Sartin has watched film on Nanih Waiya and had these comments onthe Warriors.

“Nanih Waiya has a very good football team,” said Sartin. “Theyhave a very good offensive line that defends the opposing defenseswell. They also have some good, speedy running backs that can poundthe ball.

“For us, we need to find a way to play all four quarters in thegame,” continued Sartin. “We don’t need to play like we did lastweek; waiting to the last moment to start playing.

“The South 1A playoffs are very wide open and we definitely have achance if we play like we are capable of playing.”

Sartin revealed his starting lineup for Friday’s game. On offenseare Shane Lewis at right tackle, Jake Bradley at right guard, ReidBales at center, Tevin Tobias at left guard, Jeremy Blackwell atleft tackle, Brandon Wells at tight end, Brock Roberts atquarterback, Colton McClendon at tailback, Robert Bonds at fullbackand Chris Hall at halfback.

On defense are Tevin Tobias at right end, Shane Lewis at righttackle, Keith Arnold at left tackle, Robert Bonds at left end,Jermaine Blackwell at right inside linebacker, Jeremy Blackwell atmiddle linebacker, James Blackwell at left inside backer, GermieMartin at right corner, Frank Thigpen at left corner, ColtonMcClendon at free safety and Brandon Wells at strong safety.

Key Players for Nanih Waiya: Quarterback Luke Rosamond hascompleted 60 of 99 passes for 940 yards. Running back MartinJohnson leads the ground attack with 924 yards rushing on 129carries. Montrel Easley has 430 rushing yards on 56 carries. Widereceivers Dustin Carter has caught 16 passes for 353 yards. JimmyEiland has caught 27 passes for 348 yards.

Defensively, Zack Vandevender averages 9 tackles per game. HunterSwart, Stewart Ball and Brandon Rigdon averages 7 tacklesapiece.

In the loss to Dexter, Wells led the way for the Bogue Chittooffense with 9 carries for 107 yards. Colton McClendon provided 46yards on 14 carries. Brock Roberts completed 1 of 7 passes for 11yards. Michael Martin caught one pass for 11 yards.

Defensively, Jermaine Blackwell led the Bobcats with 13 tackles.Tevin Tobias contributed 7 stops. Brandon Wells provided 5tackles.

In last year opening round game, the Warriors shutout Bogue Chitto42-0.

Other Region 4-1A teams in the playoffs features Natchez Cathedralentertains Noxapater, Mt. Olive will host French Camp, and Dextervisits South Leake.
