Convenience store robbery investigated

Police are on the hunt for a masked man who robbed a busyBrookhaven convenience store at gunpoint over the weekend.

Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson said an armed black male,wearing a black ski mask and a hooded black coat, entered the CStore at 714 East Monticello St. sometime around 7:15 p.m. Saturdayand left with cash and a second weapon. The incident is underinvestigation, he said.

“He had a weapon in his hand,” the chief said. “He jumped over thecounter and grabbed some money, grabbed a handgun they kept behindthe counter and ran out.”

Henderson said the suspect is around 5’9″ and of slender build. Hedid not disclose the amount of money taken from the store.

“That’s all the information we’re releasing right now,” he saidMonday. “We’re looking at some things. We didn’t have a lot ofwitnesses, but we have some information we’re working on. We feelvery strongly we’re going to be all right.”
