Wesson splits with LC kickers

WESSON — The Wesson and Lawrence County soccer teams playedvery competitively Tuesday night. The Lady Cobras lost in adisappointing 4-2 match while the Cobras won 4-3 in their secondnon-district contest.
The Lady Cobras (0-2) dominated during the first half, holding thelead 2-0 after 40 minutes of play.
Vanesha Harris scored two goals for Wesson and was the only playerwho scored during the first half. During the second half, the LadyCougars exploded both on offense and defense. Scoring for the LadyCougars were Eureka Hardy and Jessa Shivers with one a piece andMiranda Rutland with two goals.
The Cobras posted their first win of the season against the Cougarsas both teams fought a strong defensive battle. Emilio Collado andTony Del Cid each scored a goal for Wesson in the first half andJackson Wall scored for the Cougars.
In the second half, neither team was able to score until LawrenceCounty’s Wall scored, tying the game 2-2 at the end of regulationplay.
The teams chose to break the tie in a shootout, with Wesson winningin the end. Scoring goals for the Cobras were Brandon Nettles,Collado and Del Cid.
Wesson’s Jacob Tarver played an exceptional game as goalie,allowing only one goal in the shootout from Lawrence County’sWall.
Wesson’s record stands at 1-1 in non-district play. The Cobras willhost their first district match Friday against Natchez Cathedral.The games will be played at 5:30 p.m. and 7 on the soccer fields atCopiah-Lincoln Community College.
