MEADVILLE – Authorities are looking for a missing teenager inFranklin County.

Franklin County Sheriff James Newman said 14-year-old MadisonDrew Nichols was last seen near her home in the Hamburg communityaround 5 p.m. Saturday. The department is working with otheragencies to locate the girl, who may not be too far from home, thesheriff said.

“We have reason to believe she’s with some friends,” Newmansaid. “We’re still investigating right now.”

Newman said he does not believe an AMBER Alert, a nationwidelookout order issued when a child is abducted, is necessary. Lawenforcement must prove an abduction has taken place before an alertis issued.

“We’re hoping for a happy ending on this before long,” he said.”We’re trying to piece together where she might be right now. I’mnot in a panic mode just yet.”

Nichols is a 5’6, 120-pound white female with brown hair. Anyonewith information on her whereabouts may call the Franklin CountySheriff’s Department at 601-384-2323.
