Lady Jackets bag win; Cobras bite Enterprise

The host Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets (9-11, 3-0) remainedunbeaten in Region 6-2A action Friday night with a 62-43 win overtheir Region rival, the Wesson Lady Cobras.

In the boys’ action, Gib Britt nailed a buzzer-beating 3-pointer togive the Wesson Cobras (3-8, 2-1) a 57-56 victory againstEnterprise.

The Jackets and Lady Jackets resume action Tuesday, traveling toMadison for another regional matchup against the St. Joseph Bruins.The girls’ game begins at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.

Wesson will also be action Tuesday traveling to face region foeHinds AHS. Tip off is 6 p.m.

Enterprise 62, Wesson 43

Sophomore forward Caroleah Brister pumped in a game-high 18 pointsand grabbed 7 rebounds to lead the Lady Jackets. Senior guard KarlaBeth Hux knocked down 14 points. Center Veonka Sanders contributed12 points, 8 rebounds and blocked 5 shots.

“It feels good to be 3-0 in district,” said Enterprise coach JillNations. “My girls played really hard the whole game.”

The Lady Jackets and Lady Cobras were tied 31-all going intohalftime.

Junior guard Madison Rials directed the Lady Cobras (5-8, 0-3) with12 points, 4 rebounds, 2 steals and 2 assists. Summer Rials was theleader on the boards with 9 rebounds.

“We have got to be ready to play in every game and play all fourquarters,” said Wesson coach Rusti Magee.

Enterprise outscored Wesson 20-5 in the final quarter.

Wesson 57, Enterprise 56

The Enterprise Jackets rallied from 14 points down in the fourthquarter to capture a brief 56-54 lead over the Wesson Cobras in thefinal seconds before the heart breaking-shot by Britt.

Senior forward Sam Furr was the top scorer for the Jackets (3-17,1-2) with 21 points. Thomas Allen contributed 15 points. GrantBrister added 13 points.

“We started off slow and dug ourselves a big hole early in thegame,” said Enterprise coach John Knight. “I am extremely proud ofthe guys for battling back and having the opportunity to win thegame.

“The main factor was that we missed too many free throws in closingseconds that could have helped us win the game,” continued Knight.”Britt made a great play at the end to get the win. I blame myselffor not defending that play very well.”

Senior guard D.J. Coleman knocked down 21 points to lead theCobras. Terry Brown and Britt provided 10 points apiece.

“I am very proud of the guys effort and they played hard the entiregame,” said Wesson coach Rusty Newman. “Enterprise made a greatcomeback to take the lead, but my guys stayed focused and executedon the last play and Britt knocked it down.”

In JV action, the Wesson Lady Cobras defeated the Lady Jackets21-11 as Brandi McInnis pumped in 8 points to lead Wesson. CarleyPrice knocked down 7 points to lead Enterprise.

In boys’ action, the Wesson Cobras managed to hold on to a 25-22win over Enterprise. Patrick Lumley directed the Cobras with 7points. Ethan Harris added 6 points.

The Jackets were led by Jared Vaughn with 7 points. Dylan Furrcontributed 5 points.
