BHS girls nip McComb

McCOMB – Amy Hoover scored twice and Andie Netherland once asBrookhaven’s Lady Panthers edged McComb 3-2 in a Friday nightsoccer match in C.C. Moore Stadium. Hoover attempted 7 shots andNetherland had an assist.
Ole Brook goalie Katie Grace Culpepper made 4 saves in the region5A victory. The Lady Panthers raised their record to 8-6 overalland 2-2 in the region, assuring them a berth in the state playoffs,Jan. 25.
Brook’s JV girls lost a 1-0 decision to McComb.
In the varsity boys game, McComb beat the Panthers 2-1 in overtime.Brook fell to 5-9-1 overall and remained winless (0-4) in regionplay.
After a scoreless first half, both teams scored in the second half.Followed two scoreless 10-minute overtime sessions, the game wentto a shootout.
“Our boys played hard and made it a close game,” said BHS coachKevin Bower. “We just couldn’t get the ball in the net.”
BHS goalkeeper Happy Upal made 8 saves.
Bower’s team resumes play Tuesday at North Pike, starting with a JVgirls game at 5.
