Lady Panthers fall; Panthers win big

SOSO – The Brookhaven Panthers found the right offensive gearFriday night and romped to an 84-51 triumph against the West JonesMustangs in Region 6-5A basketball action. Center Fred Fairman andguard Keith Johnson directed the triumph with 15 and 13 pointsrespectively.

In the varsity girls game, West Jones beat Brookhaven 58-45 asKiara Speed tossed in 24 points for the Lady Mustangs.

Brookhaven hosts Clinton Tuesday night for three games in SinclairGymnasium. The Panthers are home Friday against Lawrence County andthey host Bogue Chitto Saturday night.

The Panthers (16-4, 2-1) were led on the backboards by Fairman with10 boards. Ross Hill grabbed 5 rebounds. Providing 3 assists wereJohnson, Leo Garrett and Dennis Jordan.

“We played probably our best overall offensive game,” said BHScoach Preston Wilson. “We only had 13 turnovers.”

Wilson’s Panthers claimed a 39-28 halftime lead.

The Lady Panthers (5-14, 0-3) continue looking for their firstregion win of the season. Coach Freda Craft’s team was led byTiakara Kelly’s 19 points. Christen Benson had 9 points.

The Lady Mustangs (13-5) led 31-15 at halftime.
