Lady Wolves sweep Holmes

WESSON – On a warm and pleasant day in February, the Co-Lin LadyWolves managed to sweep the Holmes Lady Bulldogs 19-1 and 4-3Tuesday afternoon in softball action. The Lady Wolves accounted for24 runs on 26 hits and committed just one error in theseries,

“The girls really put the bat on the ball in the first game,” saidCo-Lin coach Allen Kent. “We were very patient at the plate and hitthe gaps really well.”

The Lady Wolves (4-0) resume action today with a doubleheaderagainst the Alcorn State Lady Braves. Game one is set to begin at 1p.m.

Co-Lin 19, Holmes 1

Sophomore pitcher Bethany Pinkston (2-0) was the winning pitcherfor the Lady Wolves with six strikeouts and one walk. Allison Raywas the losing pitcher for the Lady Bulldogs with one strikeout andone walk.

Freshman third baseman Carrie Moak smashed a grand-slam home run inthe fifth inning for Co-Lin. She also hit a single and a double.Catcher Laken Lockhart contributed a double and three singles.Bobbie Cochran belted two doubles. Tammy Alford and BrookeDelaughter provided three singles apiece.

The Lady Bulldogs got a double from Symone Simpson and a singlefrom Frankie Maxwell.

Co-Lin 4, Holmes 3

The Lady Wolves rallied to capture the lead in the fourth inningand added one more run in the fifth inning for insurance.

Sophomore Haley Sones led Co-Lin with a triple. Laken Lockhart andAshley McCaffrey contributed a double apiece.

“We were fortunate to get the win,” said Kent. “We knew that theywere saving their best pitcher for this game. I am pleased with thegirls for staying focused and battling back to get the lead.” SarahAnthony was the winning pitcher in relief of Delaughter.

Kaitlyn Doles, Lyn Browning and Maxwell were the leaders for theLady Bulldogs with two singles each.
