Jones County ambushes Lady Wolves

ELLISVILLE – Sophomore Tanecka Carey scored a game-high 53points to lead the Jones County Junior College Lady Bobcats to a90-80 upset win over the Lady Wolves Thursday night in the lastregular season game of the year. Co-Lin will host the MACJC StateTournament which begins Monday. Tournament brackets will bereleased tomorrow.
Carey, a Southern Miss signee, scored 30 points in the first half,and finished the game with 8 treys.
The Lady Wolves (19-2, 11-1), ranked No. 9 nationally, got in earlyfoul trouble. They trailed the Lady Bobcats 51-42 athalftime.
Co-Lin opened the second half on a 10-2 run to cut the lead to53-52, but the Lady Bobcats went on a run and led by as many as 15in the second half.
Freshman Keosha Bradley led Co-Lin with 20 points. Kiara Etienneadded 17 points and Sedreka Plummer chipped in 15. Brandi Simmonsled off the backboards with 7 rebounds.
Alondra Rivers added 14 points for Jones.
The Jones Bobcats went on a 9-0 run to start the game and neverlooked back as they pounded the Wolves 107-74 in South Divisionaction. Co-Lin finishes the season 9-12 overall and 5-7 in thedivision. Jones (13-10, 8-4) will be the No. 3 seed from the SouthDivision in next week’s MACJC State Tournament that will be hostedby Co-Lin.
Jones led Co-Lin 53-35 at halftime.
The Bobcats hit 9 treys in the game and had four players in doublefigures. Tiaj Kelly led the way with 19 points followed by BrandonGivens with 18. Andrew Marshall and Kenyada Wallace added 10 pointsapiece.
Sophomore Marcus Hooten led Co-Lin with 26 points. Ernest Waferadded 19 points.
