A former Brookhaven businessman was found dead at his home inNew Orleans Saturday, a family friend said.

Alvin Smith, 73, died of an apparent heart attack, said PattiPerkins, citing a call she had received from emergency serviceofficials in Louisiana. Smith was found Saturday evening at hishome on Bourbon Street.

Smith was retired from Smith Insurance Agency. Active inRepublican political circles and the Brookhaven Kiwanis Club, Smithwas a member of the Mississippi School of the Arts Foundation andthe State Bank Board of Directors.

Funeral arrangements, under the direction of Harrigill FuneralHome, are incomplete.
