Co-Lin Wolfpack register sweep of Coahoma Tigers

WESSON – On a sun-kissed Sunday afternoon, the Co-Lin Wolfpackswept the Coahoma Community College Tigers in a baseballdoubleheader. They won the opener 12-2 and the nightcap 9-7.
“I’m pleased we got a sweep,” said Co-Lin coach Keith Case.,”Delgado comes in Wednesday and they are real strong.”
Doubleheader action begins at 3 p.m. Each game is scheduled to last7 innings.
Delgado, based in New Orleans, won its Division I region lastseason and returns most of its starting pitchers.
Co-Lin 12, Coahoma 2
Winning pitcher Devon Whitbey went 4 innings and allowed 1 hit. Thefreshman southpaw from Milton, Fla., held the Tigers scoreless. Hewalked 1 batter and struck out 8.
Freshman right-hander Cody Wall replaced Whitbey in the fifth. Wallgave up 2 runs on 1 hit, walking 1 and fanning 1. He also hit 2batters.
Montreal Robertson started for Coahoma and absorbed the loss.
Second baseman Willie Buckley homered for the Wolfpack. Co-Linthird baseman Bud Britt collected a double and 2 RBIs. Firstbaseman Conner Oakes doubled twice. Centerfielder Dehendret Collinscollected 2 hits in the win.
Co-Lin 9, Coahoma 7
Ben Boone started for Co-Lin but was lifted in the second inningdue to a shoulder problem. Tyler Copeland got the win in relief,going 2 innings. He gave up 1 hit and 1 run, walking none andfanning none.
Freshman right-hander Raymond Winter allowed 1 hit and 1 run in 2innings of relief. Sophomore southpaw Ryan Kennedy fanned 3 battersin relief. Chandler Ramsey gave up 2 hits and 1 run.
Coahoma left 5 runners on base.
Co-Lin moved ahead 8-3 in the second inning.
“We didn’t have a real sharp game,” said Case. “We got ahead earlyand kind of relaxed.”
Co-Lin (3-1) got a 2-run homer from rightfielder Zac Ferguson inthe second inning. Centerfielder Willie Buckley hit a 2-RBI doublein the first.
Coahoma was powered by Leroy Wilson who homered, doubled andsingled.
