Lady Jackets capture region crown
The Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets captured their first Region6-2A crown as they cruised past the Loyd Star Lady Hornets 14-2Thursday night in softball action.
“I’m very proud of the girls,” said Enterprise coach CharissaBurke. “They have worked hard all season and have accomplished oneof their goal by winning the district crown. Now, we must regroupand prepare ourselves for the playoffs.”
The Lady Jackets (12-4, 7-1) return to action Tuesday as theytravel to face the Natchez High Lady Bulldogs for a varsitydoubleheader. Game time begins at 5 p.m.
The Lady Hornets (2-12, 2-6) resume action Saturday when they willparticipate in the Bogue Chitto softball tournament. Loyd Starbattles Franklin County at 4 p.m. and then tangles with BogueChitto to end the tournament at 5:30 p.m.
Enterprise 14, Loyd Star 2
The Lady Jackets exploded in the sixth and seventh innings to breakopen a close game and quickly saw their visions of their firstdistrict championship come clear as they held off the Lady Hornets’rally.
Taylor Nelson was the winning pitcher for Enterprise with sixstrikeouts and three walks. Bonnie Burks suffered the setback forLoyd Star with six strikeouts and seven walks.
Kaitlyn Moak provided the offensive firepower for the Lady Jacketswith a home run. Hannah Moak contributed the ammunition with adouble and a single. Chynna Coghlan, Ashely Boyd and Kayla Brittsmashed two singles apiece. Nelson belted a double. Karla Beth Huxhit safely.
Haley Smith provided the offensive spark for the Lady Hornets withtwo singles. Hitting safely were Lexi Butler and HannahSmith.
“We still have not played a complete game yet,” said Loyd Starcoach Jan Delaughter. “We are a young team and we are stilllearning. Enterprise has a good ball club and I wish them well inthe playoffs.”
In JV action, the Lady Hornets walloped the Lady Jackets10-3.
Kelsey McCullough grabbed the victory as the pitcher for Loyd Starwith two strikeouts and one walk. Lauren McCaffrey suffered theloss for Enterprise with no strikeouts and two walks.
Lexie Butler was the offensive leader for Loyd Star with a homerun. Brooke Rushing smashed a triple. Julie Smith, Megan Norton andHaleigh Hux belted a double apiece. Ali Gartman contributed twosingles. Hitting safely were Raigan Smith and McCullough.
Enterprise was led offensively with singles from Addie Springs,Karlie Williams and McCaffrey.
