Graveside funeral services for Verna MaeMcPhail Smith, of Natchez, are 2 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 19, atPleasant Grove Baptist Church, with burial in the church’scemetery. Laird Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

    Visitation is Monday from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. at the funeralhome.

    Mrs. Smith, 103, died Dec. 14, 2011, at Magnolia House. She wasborn in Brookhaven on Nov. 19, 1908 to Clauren Thedford McPhail andElizabeth Middleton McPhail.

    She was a member of Parkway Baptist Church and of the DAR. Sheenjoyed being active in several activities at Parkway BaptistChurch, gardening, travel and needlework.

    Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Barney EdwardSmith; and three brothers, Denon McPhail, Aubrey McPhail andHartwell McPhail.

    Survivors are her three daughters, Beverly Vinson and husband,Lonnie, of Natchez, Diane Land and husband, Dr. Robert Land, ofHorseshoe Bay, Texas, and Genyth DeSalvo and husband, Mike, of NewOrleans; one sister, Marvel Gartman of Houston; six grandsons,Kevin Cupit and wife, Alison of Vacherie, La, Kennon Cupit andwife, Susan, of Mobile, Ala., Jason Vinson of Hattiesburg, DavidLand and wife, Cari, of Austin, Texas, Michael DeSalvo of Atlanta,and Matthew DeSalvo of Boston; one granddaughter, Jennifer Hall andhusband, Dr. David Hall, of Tulsa, Okla.; two step-grandchildren,Melanie Williams of Baton Rouge, La, and Gene Vinson of San Diego;ten great-grandchildren, Ryan Cupit, Lauren Cupit, Will Cupit, WynnCupit, Lydia Hall, Alyssa Hall, Pierson Hall, Reid Hall, Jack Landand Owen Land.

    Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.

      A special thanks to theadministrators and care givers at the Magnolia House.

      Memorials may be made to theParkway Baptist Church Building Fund or the Alzheimer’sAssociation.
