Franklin County splits with Natchez

NATCHEZ – In a hardwood basketball battleof Bulldogs, the FranklinCounty girls blasted Natchez 50-31. In the boys game, Natchez beatFCHS 51-46.
Franklin County (7-3) rushed out to 10-8 lead after the firstquarter. Big, second-quarter baskets by FC’s Briana Grayson andToni Robinson led to a 20-12 lead.
After Natchez’s Kiana Jones hit a free throw with 6:27 left in thesecond, Grayson hit a layup with 5:16 to go. Franklin County’sdefense stymied NHS, and Robinson hit a layup with 4:10 to extendFranklin County’s lead to 14-9.
“I thought we did a greatjob; we held them to 12 at the half,” said Franklin County girlshead coach Charles Moore.
Franklin County increased its lead in the third, as NHS (9-4)managed just seven points in the quarter.
Grayson led the Lady Bulldogs in scoring with 17 points for FCHS.Robinson finished with 11 points. Senior point guard KeKe Collinsadded 10 points.
Keyana Miller was NHS’s leading scorer with 12 points.
Natchez 51 FCHS 46
In the boys’ contest the FCHS Bulldogs watched a 30-28 halftimelead fall as Natchez went on an 11-1 run in the third period to setthe tone.
Dearrius Griffin led NHS with 18 points and seven boards, plus twosteals.
Antonio Green had 10 points for the FC Bulldogs.
