Memorial services for Bertha Faye StarnesThornton, of Hazlehurst, are 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 4, at FirstBaptist Church of Hazlehurst. Riverwood Family Funeral Service isin charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Thornton, 72, died Dec. 28, 2011, at her home. She was born inMississippi on July 3, 1939, to Alvin B. Starnes and Emmie VirginiaNesmith Starnes McKay.

    She was a graduate of Hazlehurst High School and Copiah-LincolnCommunity College Nursing Program. She was a retired nurse andmember of First Baptist Church of Hazlehurst.

    Preceding her in death were her parents; and brother, Billie AlvinStarnes.

    Survivors are her husband, William W. Thornton; sons, Billy AlvinThornton and Bobby Charles Thornton; daughter, Donna Nell ThorntonLittle; seven grandchildren, Mason A. Thornton, Clark W. Little,Emily L. Thornton, Virginia B. Little and Caroline M. Thornton andstep-grandchildren, Brent Berry and Kate Berry; and fourgreat-grandchildren.

    Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society; Gideons; FBCHazlehurst, Moses Sunday School Class; or Baptist Children’sVillage.
