Funeral services for Martha A. Howard, ofArnold, Neb., are 1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, at Wesley BiblicalSeminary in Jackson, with burial at 4 p.m. in Easthaven Cemetery inBrookhaven. Wright & Ferguson Funeral Home in Jackson is incharge of arrangements.

    Visitation is Thursday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. at theseminary.

    Mrs. Howard, 95, went home to be with her Lord on Dec. 30, 2011.She was born Martha Lucille Moffet in Ottumwa, Iowa, the youngestof five children born to Mont and Eva Moffet.

    She taught for almost 50 years, at all levels, from kindergartenthrough elementary, high school, college and graduate school inIowa, Kentucky and Mississippi. She received her bachelor’s degreefrom Kletzing College in University Park, Iowa; a master’s from theUniversity of Iowa; and an honorary doctorate from Wesley BiblicalSeminary in Jackson upon her retirement in 1994. After herretirement, she lived in Horse Cave, Ky. until moving to Arnold,Neb. in 2008. Mrs. Howard was a member of the Horse Cave UnitedMethodist Church.

    Together, she and her husband were the founding first family ofWesley Biblical Seminary. She taught speech and served asbookkeeper for the seminary from its founding in 1974 until herretirement.

    Preceding her in death were her husband, Dr. Ivan Howard; andgrandson, Thomas Bishop.

    Survivors are her son, Jim Howard and wife, Sharon, of Edmonton,Ky.; daughter, Ruth Bishop and husband, Allen, of Arnold, Neb.;stepdaughter, Helen Gerald and husband, John, of Brookhaven; 9grandchildren, Michael Bishop, James Bishop, Ben Bishop, EllenHoward, Esther Drummond, Johnny Gerald, Howard Gerald, Liz McDowelland Steve Gerald; 11 great-grandchildren; and twogreat-great-grandchildren.
