Dr. Warren Busby Nation

Dr. Warren Busby Nation, 88, ofTallahassee, Fla. and Blowing Rock, N.C., passed away Wednesday,Jan. 4, 2012, at Westminster Oaks in Tallahassee. He is survived byhis wife, Carolyn Cartee Nation.

    A memorial service was held at 2 p.m., EST, Saturday, Jan. 7, 2012,at Faith Presbyterian Church, 2200 North Meridian Road inTallahassee. A reception for family and friends followed at thehome of Park and Nancy Adams.

    The concluding service, with military honors, will be held at 2p.m., EST, Tuesday, Jan. 10, at Forsyth Memorial Park inWinston-Salem, N.C. Gifts in memory of Dr. Nation may be made toBig Bend Hospice, 1723 Mahan Center Blvd., Tallahassee, FL32308.

    A native of Brookhaven and a longtime resident of Tallahassee, hespent many years in Blowing Rock, N.C., before recently returningto Tallahassee. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church inTallahassee and First Baptist Church in Blowing Rock. An Armyveteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict, he was therecipient of a Bronze Star medal for valor and was honorablydischarged as Captain.

    Dr. Nation received his bachelor degree in business from Ole Miss,an MBA from the University of Southern Mississippi and his Ph.D.from the University of Alabama. He taught marketing and economicsat Florida State University for many years and also taught businesscourses at FSU’s London, Panama Canal and Cape Canaveral campuses.Following his retirement from Florida State, he taught for severalyears at Appalachian State University in Boone, N.C., and waspreviously on the teaching staff at Southern Mississippi and theUniversity of Alabama.

    Other survivors include his children, Nancy Adams and husband,Park, John Nation and wife, Elaine, Gray Cartee and wife Carol,Sherrie Cartee, Terrie Cartee McGlon and husband, Thom, all ofTallahassee, Mark Cartee and wife, Cheryl, of Birmingham, Ala., andCara Cartee Whitehead, of Versailles, Ky. Also surviving are 13grandchildren, Will Gerstman and wife, Liz, Nicole Nation, SavannahNation, Ashley Cartee, Catherine Cartee, all of Tallahassee, BanaeSnow and husband, Bryan, of San Diego, Erica Cartee, of St.Petersburg, Cameron Cartee, of Birmingham, Patrick McGlon III, ofJupiter, Lawson McGlon, of Mobile, Ala., and John Whitehead, JoshuaWhitehead and Joey Whitehead, all of Versailles, Ky.; and twogreat-grandchildren, Lydia and Daniel Snow.
