Hornets sweep Enterprise on Senior Night

The Loyd Star Hornets and Lady Hornetscaptured two big victories over Enterprise on Senior Night inRegion 7-2A basketball action Tuesday night in Loyd StarGymnasium.

    In the girls’ game, the Lady Hornets (15-8, 4-4) bounced back aftera tough loss to Enterprise earlier this season to defeat the LadyYellow Jackets 38-30.

    In boys’ action, the Hornets (8-11, 2-6) blasted the Jackets in thefourth quarter to prevail 63-38.

    Loyd Star recognized their basketball seniors with a specialceremony in between the girls and boys game. The senior girls areTyrisha Patterson, Courtney Watts and Melody Smith. The  senior Hornets are Jared Bullock,Holden Butler and Caleb Smith.

    Enterprise resumes basketball action Friday as they host the WessonCobras for four games. The junior varsity girls begin at 4 p.m.,followed by the varsity games.

    Loyd Star travels to Liberty Friday to battle the Amite CountyTrojans. The girls tip off at 6 p.m., followed by the boys.

Loyd Star 38, Enterprise30

    The Lady Hornets came out fast and blasted Enterprise 11-2 in thefirst quarter. They cruised to an 21-12 lead at the half.

    The Lady Jackets (11-13, 3-5) rallied in the second half tooutscored Loyd Star 18-17, but fell short at the end

    Senior center Tyrisha Patterson powered the Lady Hornets with agame-high 20 points and grabbed 15 rebounds. Courtney Watts helpedon the boards with 10 rebounds.

    “We gutted it out to get the win,” said Loyd Star coach BullyVaughn. “Enterprise did a great job fighting back. They did notquit.”

    The Lady Jackets were led offensively by junior center VeonkaSanders with 12 points. Sanders collected 9 rebounds and had 5blocked shots.

    “We have got to score continuously in all four quarters to competeand win,” said Enterprise coach Jill Nations. “Overall, I waspleased with my girls’ defensive effort. They stepped up and tooksome charges.”

Loyd Star 63, Enterprise38

    The Hornets and Jackets battled hard in the first three quarters,until the Loyd Star caught fire in the fourth. The Hornets puttogether a 27-7 run to secure the win.

    Junior forward Terion Williams pumped in a game-high 29 points,while collecting 7 rebounds, 5 steals and 4 blocked shots. JaredBullock contributed 15 points and gathered 3 steals and 3assists.

    “We started the game off sluggish but we continued to battle,” saidLoyd Star coach Gene (Moochie) Britt. “In the second half, the guysplayed a lot better and managed to outscore Enterprise in thefourth. Overall, this was a good win for our seniors.”

    Enterprise (6-17, 0-8) was led in scoring by freshman forwardJarrod Johnson with 11 points. Forrest Scott was the leader on theboards with 8 rebounds.

    “We showed a lot of improvement and had a great third quarter, saidEnterprise coach John Knight. “Loyd Star killed us in the fourthquarter. Overall, we are a young team that needs to learn to keepit together for four-quarters.”

    In JV action, Loyd Star swept Enterprise in a pair as the LadyHornets edged the Lady Jackets 21-20.

    Ruby McCullough and Kenbriana Foster led Loyd Star with 6 pointsapiece. Enterprise was led by Kristen Jergins with 10 points.

    In boys’ action, Loyd Star thumped Enterprise 16-3 as Tobias Dillonscored 6 points to lead the Hornets.
