Co-Lin takes 2 over Kaskaskia

WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolves swept adoubleheader from the Kaskaskia (Ill) Community College BlueDevils. The Wolves rallied to win the opener 8-7 and captured an8-4 victory in the nightcap Monday in JUCO baseball action atSullivan Field.
“Glad to get the wins,” said Co-Lin skipper Keith Case. “Kaskaskiais a good ball club. We had our good and bad moments in both games,but we need to continue to work hard in practice to fix thoseproblems. Overall, our pitchers did a great job today. We managedto get key hits to help us get the win in each game.”
The Wolves (7-1) resume action Friday as they travel to Morehead tobattle the Mississippi Delta Trojans in a doubleheader. Actionstarts at 1 p.m.
Co-Lin 8, Kaskaskia 7
In the opening game, the Blue Devils quickly scored two runs in thefirst and second innings to take an early 4-0 lead.
In the third and fourth, the Wolves battled back to tied the gameat 4-all. The Blue Devils answered in the fifth as they regainedthe lead by scoring 3-runs.
In the bottom of the fifth, Co-Lin rallied to recapture the lead8-7 and held off Kaskaskia to continue their winning streak.
Javon Washington (1-0) earned the win for the Wolfpack. He allowed5 runs (3 earned) on 5 hits, struck out 4 and walked 1 in fourinnings of work. Tyler Copeland picked up his second save, pitching2 scoreless innings. He struck out 2 and walked 1.
Paul Hrvoi absorbed the loss for Kaskaskia, collecting 4 strikeoutsand 4 walks.
Shortstop Noel Santos was the leading hitter for Co-Linwith a double and asingle. Bryce Guess ripped two singles. Hitting safely were GabeWilson, Jonathan Santana, Willie Buckley, Zac Ferguson and MitchLittle.
Cameron Sloan led the Blue Devils at the plate with a double and asingle. Josa Sola, Steven Todoschuk, Brendon Hardin, DominickMirogue and Felix De Jesus hit safely.
“Co-Lin has a good, talented team,” said Kaskaskia coach MitchKoester. “We still have a lot improving to do. We must do thelittle things to get better and be successful.”

Co-Lin continued their hot hitting and strong defense as theyoutscored the Blue Devils 8-2 in six innings of action. Kaskaskiatried to make a comeback in the seventh but was unsuccessful.
Lefthander Josh Wages was the winning pitcher for the Wolves withtwo strikeouts and two walks. Forey Albert suffered the setback forthe Blue Devils (0-4) with five strikeouts and two walks.
Santana was the offensive leader as he belted a 2-run home run inthe fourth and hit a single. Matt Smith provided a triple and asingle. Hitting safely were Will Gatlin, Stephen Joe, Santos andGuess.
Kyle Floyd led the Blue Devils with two singles. Sola hit a double.Jarrod Perry, Kyle Emig, Michael Huddleston, Todoschuk andSloan.
