Early morning accident claims Lawrence woman

A one-car accident resulted in a fatalityearly Tuesday morning, officials said.

    Virginia Hope Bales, 37, of Lawrence County, was driving on EastLincoln Road and went off the road at approximately 1354 EastLincoln Road, just south of China Grove Road, and struck a lightpole, said Deputy Coroner Robert Tyler.

    She was pronounced dead on the scene at 4:08 a.m. Tuesday, Tylersaid. Tyler got the call about the accident at 3:40 a.m.

    Bales was the only occupant of the vehicle, a 1993 Toyota Camry,Rushing said. She was traveling south on East Lincoln Road anddrove off the right side of the road, according to Rushing.

    The Jaws of Life were used to extract Bales’ body from thewreckage, and no other vehicles are believed involved, Rushingsaid.

    The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
