Talk of new and renovated gymnasiums wasthe highlight of the Lincoln County School Board meeting Mondaynight.
Superintendent Terry Brister said two new gymnasiums and one fullyrenovated one will be coming soon. He said requests for bids forthe construction have been sent out and the school system iswaiting to get bids back from contractors.
Gymnasium renovations will take place at Loyd Star, while brand newgyms are coming to Bogue Chitto and Enterprise.
“We looked at them (the gyms in Bogue Chitto and Enterprise) to seeif they were feasible to renovate, but they were not,” saidBrister.
The renovations at Loyd Star will be thorough renovations, according to Brister, and will give the gym decades more use. InJanuary, the school board rejected bids on combinationgymnasium/classroom facilities at Bogue Chitto and Enterprise andopted to seek bids for new gyms only.
Brister went on a trip on Feb. 16 to look at other gyms in thestate to compare and see what the county could do and in what pricerange.
In other activity, the school board tabled an issue regarding abicycle racing group using West Lincoln Attendance Center’s parkinglot and restroom facilities on the day of their race in April.
It was tabled because the board members did not know much about thegroup or why they were moving their race from northeast LincolnCounty to southwest Lincoln County. The board members alsoexpressed concerns about liability with the racers on the property,as well as which staff member from the school would be there to letthem in.
