A McCall Creek woman was killed in a one-car accident Thursday afternoon on Highway 84 in Brookhaven, authorities said.

     Emma Jane Mitchell, 57, was traveling east on the highway when she lost control of her 2005 Kia and landed in a field just west of Easthaven Baptist Church around 1:08 p.m. Thursday, said Brookhaven Police Chief Pap Henderson. She was ejected from the vehicle.

     Mitchell was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:20 p.m., said Lincoln County Coroner Clay McMorris.

     “She was on her way to King’s Daughters Medical Center to see her husband who was in the hospital,” said McMorris, citing a conversation with the woman’s daughter.

     Marshall Funeral Home in Bude is in charge of Mitchell’s arrangements, which are incomplete.
