Funeral services for Thomas Eugene “Gene” Griffith, of Brookhaven, are 3 p.m. on Saturday, May 19, at Riverwood Family Funeral Service, with burial in New Sight Cemetery.

     Visitation is Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

     Mr. Griffith, 81, died May 15, 2012, at Hospice Ministries in Ridgeland. He was born in Mississippi on Dec. 1, 1930, to W.E. and Nannie Louise Griffith.

     He was a chief engineer for Merchant Marines and member of New Sight Baptist Church and of the Brookhaven Masonic Lodge #241. Mr. Griffith served in the U.S. Coast Guard.

     Preceding him in death were his parents; granddaughter, Andrea Nicole Graves; and six siblings.

     Survivors are his wife, Minnie Evelyn Griffith; son, James Michael Griffith and wife, Sandy, of Bogue Chitto; daughters, Sandra Graves and husband, Dennis, of Brookhaven, and Jeannie Brown, of McComb; stepsons, Donald Maxie Douglas and wife, Vivian, of Brandon, Michael Paul Douglas, of Jackson, and Alex Tucker and wife, Sandra, of Brandon; stepdaughter, Theresa Ann Causey and husband, Robert, of Raymond; brothers, Lavon Griffith, of Alberta, Ala., Wayne Griffith, of Nederland, Texas, and Kenneth Griffith, of Sontag; sister, Louise Calendar, of Kenner, La.; 16 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
