Brookhaven Academy is bringing the rodeo to town Saturday.

Rockin’ S Rodeo will be at the Lincoln Civic Center at 8 p.m. Saturday and the school will be selling concessions to raise funds for various projects, including building a performing arts center.

“Our school doesn’t have a stage,” said Valarie Oglesby, director of resource and development for BA. “We can expand on our theater and arts and be able to offer the children that, too.”

Saturday’s rodeo is part of Rockin’ S Rodeo tour and show producer Bobby Smith said working with the school benefits them both.

“It takes a lot to put on a rodeo,” he said. “You tie in a local organization that helps you do all the preparations needed up until the event and it gives a way for them to raise money.”

As part of the festivities, Championship Bull Riding champion and Hazlehurst resident Kenny Westrope will sign autographs at Stan King GM Superstore from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday. Rodeo clowns will provide entertainment and tickets will be available during that time.

Tickets are $10 and children under 5 get in free. The show starts at 8 p.m., with gates opening at 6 p.m.

“It’s a great, affordable production and it’s exciting to be able to offer this to Brookhaven, ” Oglesby said.
