Buford Ray Gill

Buford Ray Gill of Brookhaven went to be with his precious Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Tuesday, June 12, 2012. He was 76 years old. Funeral services will be 2 p.m., Friday, June 15, in the chapel at Riverwood. Visitation will be from noon until 1:45 p.m. Friday prior to the service. The Rev. Bendon Ginn will officiate.

     He was preceded in death by his parents, Sam and Ruby Lee Hall Gill of Brookhaven, and his infant daughter, Cynthia Iris Gill.

     He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of almost 57 years, Martha McDavid Gill; three daughters, Gloria Gill Kellems and husband, Brady; Anita Gill Davis and husband, Moody; and Glenda Gill Silverii; a granddaughter, Cheli Kellems Durr and husband, Joseph; a grandson, Samuel Joseph Silverii; two great-grandchildren, Brady Michael Durr and Elizabeth Grace Durr, all of Brookhaven.      He is also survived by a sister, Pauline Gill Frost of Houston; two brothers, Robert Lee Gill and wife, Alice; and Donald Gill and wife Delorus, all of Brookhaven; and several beloved brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews, family and friends.

     A native of Lincoln County, Mr. Gill was born on July 30, 1935. He worked as a boilermaker and in the oilfield, retiring after several years as a drilling superintendent for Grace Oil Company.

     Spending time with family and friends was a favorite pastime. He enjoyed listening to the classic gospel hymns of his youth and was comforted by them in his final years as he fought a long, hard and valiant battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

     Pallbearers will be Robert Gill, Donald Gill, Moody Davis, Brady Kellems, Samuel Silverii and Joseph Durr.

     The family requests any memorials be donated to Gideon’s International or the Alzheimer’s Foundation.
