Funeral services for Rick Stewart, of Benton, are 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 11, at Scotland Baptist Church in Bentonia, with burial the church cemetery. Stricklin-King Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Visitation is Friday from 5 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Stewart, 60, died Aug. 8, 2012, at his home. He was born on Oct. 15, 1951 in Orlando, Fla., where he attended Ocoee Public School.
Rick was a welder and a paramedic. He was employed as a welder with various companies at different out-of-state locations. He was formerly employed with Hardy Wilson Hospital in Hazlehurst as a paramedic, and had also worked for Capital Cablevision in Jackson where he met and married his wife, Shirley.
Rick was an avid outdoorsman; he enjoyed hunting, fishing and horseback riding. Rick was very talented with horses and for a time, he and Shirley raised Percheron draft horses; at present, he was raising Missouri Fox Trotter horses. He was a member of the Missouri Fox Trotter Association, MS Chapter, where he and his wife, Shirley, enjoyed many trail rides.
He was a member of Scotland Baptist Church and had recently given his life to the Lord. He loved his church and was helping with remodeling. He will be remembered for his laughter, his playful spirit and his smile. He will be missed by all who loved him.
Preceding him in death was his father, Alva “PeeWee” Stewart, of Florida.
Survivors are his loving wife of 34 years, Shirley Hughes Stewart; mother, Jocelyn “Jo” Gay Stewart Arnold, of Georgia; children, Chelsie Stewart Case and husband, Kelby, Richard “Halsey” Stewart and wife, Kimberly, all of Brookhaven, and Skye Stewart Hopper and husband, Stephen, of Benton; eight grandchildren, Kirstie, Dava, Dawn, Rachael, Cameron, Blake, Lil Halsey and Jack; sister, Connie Causey, of Florida; and nieces, nephews, extended family and a host of friends.
