Bogue Chitto stops Wesson, Franklin Co.

MCCOMB – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats captured two wins in their season opener at the McComb Tournament Classic in Saturday Softball actio. Bogue Chitto crushed the Wesson Lady Cobras 8-1 in the first game and thumped the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs 8-4 in the second game.

     “We played really well today,” said Bogue Chitto coach Scott Leggett. “It was important for us to get off to a good start to begin the season. We hit the ball really well and played great defensively.”

     The Lady Cats (2-0) continue action today, hosting the Seminary Lady Bulldogs. Junior varsity begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity at 6.

BC 8, Wesson 1

     Bogue Chitto managed to get on the board and lead 2-1 in the third inning. They held the Lady Cobras  scoreless in the rest of the contest.

     Kerri McGehee pitched the win for the Lady Cats with no strikeouts and no walks.

     Hanna Brown absorbed the setback for Wesson with two strikeouts and three walks

     Rheagan Welch provided the offensive firepower for BC with a double and three singles. Earlneshia Dillon hit a home run.  Adrienne Wallace continued the onslaught with three singles. Mattie Avants, Colby Kirkland and Marshonikique provided two singles apiece. Hitting safely were Alexis Givens and McGehee.

     At the plate, Taylor Smith, Kayla Britt and Hailey Chassion were the offensive leaders for Wesson with two singles apiece. Ashton Newman, Macie McQuage and Sarah Robinson hit safely.

BC 8, FC 4

     The Lady Cats broke loose from in a close 5-4 ballgame in the fifth inning and added three runs to take the win.

     McGehee collected her second win of the day for BC with no strikeouts and no walks.

     Sierra Bethley suffered the setback for Franklin County with one strikeout and one walk.

     Givens provided the offensive spark for the Lady Cats with four singles. Christian Black ripped a home run and a single.  Welch fueled the flames with three singles. Wallace, Kirkland, McGehee and Dillon contributed two singles apiece. Mallory Allen singled.

     LayLay Griffin directed the Lady Bulldogs with four singles. Bethley provided three singles. Hitting safely were Kiarra Sykes, Nuda Starks, Alyssa Case abd Courtney Hauer.
