Lincoln County authorities are investigating what they’re calling a “massive amount of damage” at a county school early Friday morning.

Lincoln County Sheriff Steve Rushing said a deputy making his rounds discovered vandalism at Bogue Chitto Attendance Center around 6 a.m. Friday.

“An officer checking the school this morning discovered it had been vandalized,” he said.

Rushing said they found vandals had broken six glass doors across the campus, two windows and found toilet paper and trash everywhere. There was also some graffiti, a fire extinguisher had been set off in the library and the gym had experienced some flooding with a garden hose.

Rushing described the vandalism as significant.

“It is just a massive amount of damage across campus,” he said. “The school is still checking on what else may have been damaged.”

A sheriff’s deputy had been through the area around 1 a.m. and did not see anything, said Rushing. So Rushing said the damage must have been done between 1 and 5 a.m. by more than one person.

“Multiple people are responsible for this,” he said. “It had to be several people due to the widespread damage across the campus.”

Sheriff’s officials are looking into the vandalism and Rushing said they’ve got some things to work with.

“We’re working on some leads at the moment,” he said. “So hopefully we’ll have something pretty soon on it.”

Anyone with information on the damage is asked to contact the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.
