Wayne Griffith

Funeral services for Wayne Griffith, of Nederland, Texas, were 10 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 19, at Broussard’s Mortuary, with burial in Oak Bluff Memorial Park in Port Neches.

     Mr. Griffith, 87, died Sept. 16, 2012. He was born in Jayess on Aug. 1, 1925, to Willard Griffith Sr. and Nannie Smith Griffith, and had been a resident of the area for 50 years.

     Wayne was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served in World War II. He was an engineer with Texaco Marine Department and retired after 40 years of employment. Wayne was a longtime member of Hillcrest Baptist Church. He enjoyed gardening, woodworking, traveling and spending time with family. Wayne will be remembered as a man of few words and could fix anything.

     Preceding him in death were his parents; wife, Johnnie Griffith; two sisters; and five brothers.

     Survivors are his wife of 12 years, Betty Griffith, of Nederland, Texas; sons, Gary Griffith and wife, Linda, of Monticello, and Phillip Griffith and wife, Pam, of Orange, Texas; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; brothers, Lavon Griffith, of Elberta, Ala., and Kenneth Griffith, of Sontag; and sister, Louise Callender, of Kenner, La.
