Mrs. Elaine Covington Holland, 72, died Dec. 1, 2012, at the Southwest Regional Medical Center. She was born in Brookhaven on Nov. 24, 1940, to Winnie and Wiley Covington.
She graduated from Copiah-Lincoln High School in 1958. She retired from Walmart after many years of service, ending as Layaway department manager.
She was a member of the Baptist faith, and attending church and Sunday school was an important part of her life. Throughout her life, she always enjoyed maintaining an elaborate yard and was always considering plants and structures to add. As long as her health allowed she always worked diligently to decorate for the holidays. Easter was her favorite because it is a holiday of hope and not as commercialized as Christmas. Also, Easter is near the time of the birth of her only grandson, whose accomplishments she followed closely and shared with whomever she spoke. She was a charitable and kind person. When she became aware of a need from tragedy and as her health would allow, she was always looking to help via a cooked meal or whatever her means allowed her to do.
Preceding her in death were her parents; and her brother, Grady Covington.
She is survived by her former husband James P. Holland of Lucedale; her son, Dr. James Allan Holland (Mirjana) of Chattanooga, Tenn.; her grandson, James Brian Holland of Chattanooga; her sister Geneva Moak (Delos) of Flora; and her brother, Ralph Covington of Wesson.
