Bogue Chitto exterminates Jackets

Senior guard Adrienne Wallce pumped in a game-high 16 points to lead three players in double figures as the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats crushed the Enterprise Lady Yellow Jackets 66-43 Thursday night in the Lincoln County Round Robin Tournament at Loyd Star Gymnasium.
In boys’ action, the Bobcats captured the first win of their season with a 30-24 triumph over the Jackets.
Tournament action continues today at Loyd Star. BC battles West Lincoln with the girls’ game starting at 4 p.m., followed by the boys.
Enterprise tangles with Loyd Star in the nightcap. Girls action is set to tip off at 7 p.m., followed by the boys.
Bogue Chitto 66, Enterprise 43
The Lady Cats (10-1) roared to an early 17-3 lead in the first quarter and took a 38-19 lead into halftime.
In the second half, the Lady Jackets (6-3) and Bogue Chitto battled back and forth in a tough defensive contest. BC outscored Enterprise 28-24.
Junior guard Mattie Avants contributed 14 points to help direct the Lady Cats. Zarriah Matthews provided 12 points. Marshonikique Blackwell was the leader on the boards for BC with 6 rebounds.
“The girls started the game off really well and got an early lead,” said BC coach Christi Terrell. “Overall, I was very pleased with my girls’ performances.”
Senior center Veonka Sanders paced the Lady Jackets with 15 points and 4 rebounds. Meagan Rippy led on the boards with 6 rebounds.
“My girls played hard,” said Enterprise coach Jill Nations. “They showed a lot of heart in battling back. We have to do a better job handling pressure situations.”
Bogue Chitto 30, Enterprise 24
In a low-scoring defensive battle, the Bobcats (1-9) out muscled the Jackets (5-4) for their first win of the season.
Senior forward Dennis Rogers led the charge for the Bobcats with 15 points.
“Glad to get the win,” said BC coach Gareth Sartin. “The win was not pretty, but we will take it. Overall, the guys are playing aggressive on defense, but we still need to improve on our offense, keep working hard to get better on offense.”
Forrest Scott was the offensive leader for the Jackets with 15 points. Travis Brinson grabbed 6 rebounds to pace the Jackets on the boards.
“Proud of my guys,” said Enterprise coach John Knight. “They played hard and we had several of our younger players stepped up tonight and contributed. We still need to work on making free throws in close ball games.”
