Brookhaven Academy boys notch win over East Rankin

PELAHATCHIE – Gage Posey scored 18 points and Caleb Brown added 11 in leading the Brookhaven Academy Cougars to a 55-42 Saturday night win over the East Rankin Academy Patriots.

     In the varsity girls game, East Rankin posted a 51-36 victory, paced by Karlie Coghlan’s 16 points.

     The Cougars and Lady Cougars take semester exams this week.  Their Christmas Tournament begins Dec. 27.

     The Cougars (10-4) led 22-21 at halftime. They outscored the hosts 18-2 in the decisive third quarter.

     “We scored eight unanswered  points the second half and created a lead,” said BA coach Dale Watts. “We played hard but we didn’t make our free throws. Our defense did a pretty good job.”

     The Patriots got 17 points from Jacob Welden.

     The Lady Cougars (4-11) trailed 33-16 at halftime and never recovered.

     Guard Hillary Wilson’s tossed in 15 points for Coach Bruce Allsup’s squad, sacking 5 treys.
