Franklin shuts out Loyd Star

BUDE – Hoby Mullins added to his 3A lead in goals scored and the Franklin County Bulldogs remained undefeated on the season with a 4-0 victory over rival Loyd Star Friday night in district soccer action.
In the girls’ contest, Franklin Co. collected a 2-0 win behind strong goal keeper play from Macy Ziskin.
The Bulldogs (13-0, 3-0) opened the contest with two quick goals by Mullins en route to a 2-0 first half lead.
Mullins a junior, currently leads Class 3A in scoring with 23 goals scored this season.
Bryce White and Johnnie Moore added a goal apiece in the second half as the Bulldogs defense flexed its muscles with its ninth shutout of the season.
Senior goalie Trey Bailey collected the win and provided several huge saves.
Loyd Star senior Cori Crowe almost broke the shutout in the first half but Bailey blocked two of Crowe’s shots to collect the shutout.
The Lady Bulldogs (10-2-1) kept up their winning ways with some crafty play from the sister duo of Emily and Shelby Smith to outwit the visitors. The pair kept Loyd Star off balance with fancy footwork and aggressive play.
On the other end of the field, FCHS goalkeeper Macy Ziskin provided stops and saves for the team to collect the shutout.
Tynese McNight and Haley Haygood each provided a goal to pace the Lady Bulldogs on offense against a solid Loyd Star defense that made several stops as well.
Franklin County resumes play at 5A Brookhaven Tuesday night at 5:30, starting with a JV game.
The Bulldogs play host to Wesson Friday in Bude, starting at 5 p.m.
