Brookhaven Academy escapes Simpson, 58-55

MENDENHALL – Gage Posey poured in a game-high 21 points in leading the Brookhaven Academy Cougars to a hard-fought 58-55 Saturday night win over Simpson County Academy. Peyton Hood pitched in 15 points.
The BA girls lost to Simpson but additional information was unavailable at press time. BA hosts Dexter Tuesday night for four games, starting with junior high action at 4 p.m.
The BA Cougars (14-4) got 8 rebounds from Posey. Zac Smith had 5 rebounds. Matthew Evans made 9 assists and 3 steals. Will Hickman had 2 steals.
“Our guys didn’t play very well but we did a good job with our second group,” said BA coach Dale Watts. “It was a hard-fought game. Matthew (Evans) hit a couple of big free throws at the end,” making 5 out of 6 from the charity line.
Simpson, sparked by Josh Hankins who had a team-high 18 points, took a 29-25 halftime lead. They trailed 46-40 starting the final frame.
