NEW ORLEANS – The Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves were ambushed Saturday in the Crescent City. Delgado’s Lady Dolphins posted a 54-51 triumph, avenging a 71-48 loss Dec. 8, at Wesson.

In the men’s game, Delgado withstood a furious Co-Lin comeback to edge the Wolfpack 88-87. Guard Melvin Davis led four Delgado players in double figures with 24 points.

Co-Lin plays Tuesday night at Baton Rouge Community College. The women’s game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the men at 7.

The Lady Wolves (8-2) looked rusty after the holiday break. They were playing their first game in 28 days.

“We didn’t play well enough defensively to win,” said Co-Lin Coach Gwyn Young. “We didn’t make our field goals or our free throws. Delgado outplayed us.”

Co-Lin guard Chanta Poole led the attack with 16 points. Jessica Wilson scored 10 points.

“We have to learn how to play hard every game,”  Young added. “I told them, ‘You can’t underestimate anyone.'”

The Wolves (1-9) nearly overcame a 20-point, second-half deficit. They cut Delgado’s lead to 1 point late in the game but turned the ball over on a late scoring opportunity.

“In the last eight or nine minutes, we finally looked like five guys trying to play as a team instead of individuals,” said Co-Lin men’s coach Dennis Sims. “We spent the first 30 minutes playing like individuals.”

The Dolphins had posted a 90-79 victory at Co-Lin on Dec. 8.

Guard Tim Harrison tossed in 20 points and Terrance James scored 18 to lead Co-Lin. Tevin Cummings added 11 points. James grabbed 8 rebounds.
